The British Leyland installed the 1493-cc Triumph Spitfire engine into the final MG Midget Mk IV in 1975. The car was raised for crash protection and equipped with substantial rubber safety bumpers, slightly diminishing performance compared to earlier versions. U.S. models featured a single Zenith carburetor and reached speeds around 80 mph. Despite a price increase to $4,150 by 1977, sales continued until 1979, marking the end of the 20-year production run. Some unsold cars from 1979 were titled as 1980 models. While well-preserved Mk IV Midgets can still be found in better neighborhoods where they were popular as sunny day second cars, finding unaltered rubber-bumper models is increasingly challenging due to retrofitting with chrome bumpers. MG Midgets offer a remarkably inexpensive entry into vintage motoring.
